It's a home World Cup. The national team needs an actual nickname besides "USMNT." They're the Stars and Stripes. They should have always been the Stars and Stripes.

I’m so unbelievably happy that this World Cup will breed new USMNT fandom but also so unfathomably jealous that there exists people out there that will never have to know the horrors of the Berhalter era

I always enjoy the World Cup… however I forgot how much more glorious it is to have four matches a day in your time zones. Games from 9 AM to 9 PM. 🔥🔥🔥🔥

As I get older, I’m getting crusty and cynical. So believe me when I say that I’ve never covered anything like today’s match. I’ve never overheard so many different languages. Nor seen so many fans inspired by a true underdog. Most of all: EVERYONE had a great time.

Football is genuinely the closest thing we have to a universal language. Expanding the World Cup to 48 teams was a top tier decision man. More countries, more cultures, more stories.

Controversial, but this might be the most beautiful of the bunch?

At the Olympics, you only see athletes sing their national anthem If they win a gold medal. At the World Cup, every nation gets to sing their anthem with their fans and their team. Pure love of country from around the world. It's really something special.

Something miraculous is happening in the USA and the world thanks to the World Cup and the USA’s 250th. I’m not quite sure yet what it is, I have to give it more thought. I think it has something to do with the world realizing that managed decline is not necessary (with Trump’s America as the example), and I think it has something to do with more Americans not being afraid to be patriots about their nation and their culture. It’s more than that though—I have to ponder. Article coming when I figure it out. Any and all ideas welcome.
