Our infrastructure is probably better than it's been in decades...the fact that we can hear, instantly, about issues that were previously kept under wraps is the difference. Sorting out accommodation in particular will cost. But it's mainly not money...it's pisspoor contracts..

Sort those out and it's halfway there.
Would a billion chucked in to sort out the issues in accommodation help? Sure. But unless the underlying reasons aren't sorted we'd be back there in a matter of years. We don't need 3% in GDP to sort out some mould and boilers...
