My lipid panel trends as I:
- Lost weight
- Dropped body fat
- Built muscle
- Ate fewer processed foods, carbs, & simple sugars
Total Cholesterol, LDL, & HDL increased.
Triglycerides dropped.
TC/HDL & TG/HDL ratios decreased considerably.
A good TC/HDL ratio is less than 5.0. Optimal is less than 3.0.
A good TG/HDL ratio is less than 2.0. Optimal is less than 1.0.
I also did my 10yr & 30yr ASCVD (atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease) risk using the AHA calculator.
It calculates a risk percentage based on: Sex, Smoking History, Age, HDL, BMI, Total Cholesterol, Systolic BP, GFR (kidney function), A1C, and if I have a history of diabetes or taking meds for BP.
At 285lbs with a low cholesterol but a BMI of 43:
- 10yr risk = 2%
- 30yr risk = 10.5%
At 205lbs with a slightly elevated cholesterol and a BMI of 33:
- 10yr risk = 1.6%
- 30yr risk = 8.7%
At 160lbs with a highly elevated cholesterol and a BMI of 23:
- 10yr risk = 0.4%
- 30yr risk = 3.8%
As I became the healthiest and fittest I've ever been in my life, my cholesterol increased and triglycerides decreased.
My ratios are now optimal and my cardiovascular risk is the lowest it's ever been.
This is exactly why I no longer believe the cholesterol myths claiming:
- Cholesterol is bad
- It causes heart disease
- Serum cholesterol is caused by dietary intake of cholesterol
- I'm going to have a heart attack if I continue eating red meat
