During Communism, Soviet and Eastern Bloc “people’s cars” were always outdated jokes, with long wait times, and made with Fiat or Renault parts kits. Cars like the Lada and Yugo.
But no CEO with theoretical non-liquid billions in stock, so that makes it better.

The original AvtoVAZ plant to make the Soviet People’s Car, most famously the Lada, was built from the ground up by Fiat in 1966.
The Soviet Union hired a for-profit car company in a capitalist country to build an entire turn-key factory and train Russians to operate the machines.
The factory produced the Fiat 124, but with heavier drum brakes and higher suspension for the shit Soviet roads. It was sold as the VAZ-2101 and Lada 1200/1300/2101. They were produced until 1988.
