As periods of unconsciousness become frequent, and the dying person doesn't wake up for meds, it's time to switch to other routes [e.g. syringe drivers] for symptom control, so the peaceful, gentle process of ordinary dying isn't interrupted by discomfort. #MakingDyingBetter

CPR is not a treatment for #ordinarydying. Every instance of futile CPR - which is what will happen if nobody has sorted out the protection of a DNACPR for someone whose life is coming to an end - is a tragedy. Please, doctors, nurses, patients, families - #havetheconversation.

Breathing changes at the very end of life - breaths become cyclical, going fast and slow with pauses. It may sound like they are panting - they aren't, it's just the respiratory centre in the brain shutting down. #MakingDyingBetter

A further contribution to #VisionZeroLDN week My key message: distractions kill, put down your phone while using London's roads
To mark Vision Zero week, I spoke with @Ldn_Ambulance⁩ paramedic Natalie about road crashes and the voluntary work she does to reduce road danger. β€œThe speed limits are there for a reason. Red lights are there for a reason,” she said. standard.co.uk/news/london/l…

A 3am coffee this morning sure seemed like a great idea but I think between that and the jackhammer outside my window all day, I go into nightshift tonight with very little sleep on board 😴

Had someone tell me today that Boris Johnson said the pandemic is over... can someone let the NHS (and the rest of the world) know? #NHS #COVID19
