You know it's been a long day at school when you're drinking your wine in a chipped holiday mug. #teacherlife

I normally live in a constant state of fear of the new. This year I walked in and looked at my new classroom and a calm took over me. I was still a little nervous about it, but my stomach was no longer in knots. #preschoolteacherlife

This week has been a true eye opener for me. I have stepped outside my comfort zone and became comfortable with the next stage.

Lately I have not wanted to wake up so early. I need to get back into the habit.
Years ago a student I taught & coached wrote a paper on his hero. He never told me about it, but his English teacher sent me a copy because it was about me. He had no father & I guess I made an impact on him. The point is you impact people who may never tell you so never stop!

It's not that they can't do addition, but it's in the presentation of the work. Children are meant to play and have fun. Present them a game and watch them flourish. #playmatters #playbasedlearning #learningthroughplay #playtolearn

I couldn't stand the struggle and walked back to my classroom grabbed my 10 frames and stepped in to ease her frustration. I let her have them. #earlylearners #playbasedlearning #learningthroughplay #playmatters

After watching this twice I asked why. "This is what the parents want!" I informed this was not developmentally appropriate for them and maybe she should have a talk with the parents. #playmatters #playbasedlearning #learningthroughplay

I watched as she counted the beads for everyone and asked them "How many?". #fail After that struggle, she walked around and wrote the number that she said for each child. #playmatters

Maybe 4 of them had the 1:1 correspondence skill. And she had them sitting at tables doing addition worksheets. What I saw during the process blew my mind away. #playmatters #playbasedlearning #learningthroughplay

I walked into a classroom of 3's last week and the teacher had them sitting at the table with pencils and an addition math sheet. Out of the group only 1 could write their name. #playmatters #playbasedlearning #learningthroughplay

Parents of #preschoolers are asking for more #kindergarten and #1stgrade math, and their child hasn't even mastered number recognition, and teachers are giving into it. So who's advocating for the child? #playmatters #playbasedlearning #learningthroughplay

#Earlylearners are not meant to sit still for 20 minutes. It boggles me that a teacher would do this and have the #IAmaPreschooler poster displayed. If this isn't an oxymoron at its best. #playmatters #playbasedlearning #learningthroughplay

They are forced to sit for long #circletime meetings and teachers are frustrated by the children not being able to sit still. #playmatters #playbasedlearning #learningthroughplay

All too often I walk into a classroom and see #earlylearners engaged in #developmentallyinappropriate practices. #playmatters #playbasedlearning #learningthroughplay

#playing is not as simple as some parents may think. There are a lot of skills being developed during this time. #skilldevelopment #playtolearn #playbasedlearning

What else are they supposed to be doing from the ages of 2-5? There is a lot of learning in the act of playing. #playmatters #playbasedlearning #learningthroughplay

It's a compliment when a parent tells me "All they seem to do is play in your room." #playmatters #playbasedlearning
