Alright, this is going to be a long post but I just remembered a hilarious story!
Back in 2009 a company called Shakespeare in The Ruins did a production of Othello in the Assiniboine Park Conservatory. My family and I attend one of the shows in June.
I can't remember if the tickets were free or significantly reduced in price to something like $20, but I recall that it didn't cost much to attend. There was an audience of about 150 people.
During the show, the lady in front of us continued to express her dissatisfaction with the play by overly dramatic sighs and hand tosses of exasperation. At one point she says, aloud to the company she is with "in moscow theater we have beautiful women."
Alright, so that sets the scene. Finally in Act V Scene 1 where Rodrigo ambushes Cassio in a dark alleyway and the have a sword fight which the director of the play had the actress who was playing Desdemona standing in the background, I guess to drive home the point that they were fighting over her, this Russian woman can no longer hold her disdain and says out loud for the entire audience to hear "NO, NO, NO, They would not fight over the ugly ducking with cow hoofs for legs!" Everyone could hear it including the actress playing Desdemona who these comments were about!
I'm sitting one row behind and two seats to the side of this woman and I am trying not to laugh my head off!
After the play, my brother in law casually strikes up a conversation with this woman while we are waiting for our row to exit and he learns that she used to be a casting director or something for a production house in Moscow.
We all laughed so hard once we got out of there! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤮🤣🤣🤣
I don't know why I thought about that today, but it is a hilarious story!
