I feel like the solution is actually easier than people may think, Simply require BA or above level of schooling, increase punishments for misconduct, pay them a little more, get rid of the “transfer upon complaint” standard and just fire them without the possibility of rehiring if they fail a basic review process. Urine test them more often, and require video to constantly be on for police units on duty and covering all points of jails… And finally, end this military style training, for all basic enforcement units… (SWAT etc it’s fine) It’s a really cheap nudge in the right direction that I think could benefit our state and country greatly.

We’ve seen again and again across the country what happens when young people lose faith in justice and the good of the world: they either group up to “stay safe”, or “lash out in pain.” This isn’t just about bad cops.
