Can't remember a more powerful first Holyrood speech. @duncdunlopwas ex-CEO of @whocaresscot on @NicolaSturgeon's failure (as he sees it) over 'The Promise' to children in care and the care-experienced. Passion, frustration, a call for action. youtube.com/watch?v=sgi-f862…

Environment Agency inaction is a national scandal. On the Wye and many other rivers agricultural pollution is the most significant factor in worsening water quality. When will the EA enforce the law and protect our rivers? @SaveTheWye @RiverActionUK @GeorgeMonbiot

Can't believe how poor @UKLabour are at politics. @wesstreeting knew what the local election results would be, should have prepared and resigned on Friday and launched his campaign. He's a week late and won't win. @Keir_Starmer will do a deal with the Burnhamites to survive.

So @RachelReevesMP what will the chaos from a @UKLabour leadership battle look like? NHS shutdown, riots, banks collapse, trains stop running, supermarkets run out of food, wages go unpaid. Answer: None of the above, we will carry on as normal. bbc.co.uk/news/live/cwy21gpr…

Some good news to brighten your day: ex-Battersea cat Petal has just celebrated her 20th birthday in her forever home! 🎂 Adopted from us back in November 2006 at just seven months old, two decades on she's clearly been very well loved. 💙

Hopefully @Keir_Starmer, @EmmaforWycombe, @Ofwat will wake up and realise they are being played. This can only end badly for the environment, billpayers and eventually the government and @UKLabour.
And here is Professor Dieter Helm's article on Thames Water's so called “market-led solution”. @Dieter_Helm. It is as always quite brilliant. dieterhelm.co.uk/publication…

Water UK have turned off their comments but it’s important to note that @Ofwat advised all water companies to build resilience to population rises and climate change over 20 years ago. They didn’t which is why we have the issues we are seeing now. #gaslighting
Working together, water companies are building 10 new reservoirs over the next 15 years and beyond. Our population is growing so we need more water. By doing the work today, we’re protecting our water supply for tomorrow.

So, public ownership of water is 'not the answer' according to the government, ignoring all the real evidence. But leaving our companies and us to be preyed on by the most expert amoral asset strippers and financial engineers is regarded as a market-led solution! This is why we need the power of a referendum to end the scam. Please sign and share. Less than a week after launch, we are already on 38K signatures and we need 100K to get a Parliamentary debate. petition.parliament.uk/petit…

Glorious video highlighting the beauty of the longlisted locations except for Swindon where the drone circles The Mechanics Institute a building that to Swindonians is emblematic of our cultural & heritage failures. Who at DCMS chose this & did they consult with SBC? Epic fail.
UK City of Culture recognises the enormous contributions made by communities all over the UK These nine places showcased the local culture and heritage that makes them unique Congratulations to Blackpool, Inverness-Highland, Middlesbrough, Milton Keynes, Portsmouth, Sheffield, Swindon, Ipswich and Wrexham gov.uk/government/news/uk-ci…

Fascinating graph in the @FT South East Water story this morning "South East Water... has paid almost as much in interest and dividends in the past 15 years as it has invested in its infrastructure". Graph shows that levels of debt skyrocketed, quadrupled between 2003/4 to 2006/7 Guess who bought SEW in 2003 and sold it again in 2006? Yep, the Australian vampire kangaroo Macquarie. Macquarie then moved on to Thames Water and we all know what happened there. After dumping TW Macquarie moved on to Southern Water a company currently on Ofwat's financial sh*t list. Three water companies, all financially devastated, lumbering customers with billions of pounds worth of debt and all with one common thread, Macquarie. No mention of any of that in govt's hapless white paper.
