I feel like it was more about knee-jerk opposition to various politicians and their ilk who were politically using it for their populist agenda. Please everyone stop with the team sports and think through things yourselves.

.@JDVance is entitled to his opinions on British politics. Given he may well be the next US president, I'd rather know what he's thinking than have him stay quiet. But on Henry Nowak's death, he's connecting dots that simply aren't there. Vance framed this as a story about mass migration and the death of Western civilisation. I actually share his broader worry about suicidal empathy corroding our institutions. What I don't share is his read of this particular case. Vickrum Digwa was not charged with any racial or religious hatred aggravation. The pathologist made clear that nothing the @HantsPolice could have done would have saved Nowak's life. This was brutal knife crime, not a migration parable. Britain does have a knife crime problem - over 50,000 recorded incidents annually, children dying monthly. The Sikh kirpan exemption is now rightly being reviewed, though Digwa's 21cm blade was far from typical and Sikh communities have integrated here peacefully for decades. This case is an outlier, not a pattern. Where Vance does brush nearer the truth is the police response. Officers handcuffed Nowak while he bled out, believing Digwa's false accusation of racism ahead of the victim's own testimony that he'd been stabbed. That failure has more to do with how British elites chose to manage multiculturalism - elevating victimhood frameworks and anti-racism doctrines that treat people differently based on race - than with migration itself. The tragedy of Henry Nowak deserves accurate accounting. There's enough there without forcing it into a narrative it won't fit.

A little girl is “waiting for mum to come home” after going missing in France. Lucy Stemp, from Tonbridge, Kent, was reported missing after travelling to France for a music festival. The hair and beauty worker is the mother of a young daughter, Gracie Anne, who is waiting for her to come home. The pair shared a close bond, with Lucy previously describing her daughter as the 'reason she keeps going' and her “best friend” and “inspiration”. Very sad this morning. Local crow breeding pair recently fledged their three juveniles. One didn't make it - noticed it in the neighbour's garden this morning when out walking the dog. Poor crow family. :-( 🐦‍⬛🪦
