On escape doors: maglock is fail-safe (releases on power loss), fire alarm must give a monitored release signal, green break-glass for manual release โ that's BS 7273-4. Get it signed off at commissioning.

Readers: default to OSDP over RS-485 (encrypted, bidirectional) not 40-year-old Wiegand. Pair with MIFARE DESFire EV2 (AES-128). On retrofits, OSDP over the existing RS-485 is your upgrade path.
