Last weekend our engineers were out in the ‘liquid sunshine’ 🌧️making improvements to the network across Kent and Sussex to improve your journey 🚆
In Kent:
🔧We laid over 472 metres of new rail, sleepers, and ballast at Woolwich Arsenal – giving smoother journeys to
@Se_Railway and
@TLRailUK passengers.
🛤️Installed 217 soil nails at Robertsbridge cutting to increase stability and prevent future landslips.
🪨Followed up recent major works by installing mesh at Maidstone Grammar School cutting to prevent rock falls on the line.
🚦Continued our major signal upgrades in the Lewisham area, installing new cables.
In Sussex:
🌉Installed 8 new wheel timbers at the Eden River bridge, along with new sleepers and safe, lightweight, corrosion resistant walkways.
🔄Refurbished the switches and crossings at Windmill Bridge Junction near Croydon South – crucial for enabling
@SouthernRailUK &
@GatwickExpress trains to change track.
🙏 Many thanks for your patience and a big thank you to all our teams 👏
ALT Workers in orange high-visibility clothing install a large steel beam on a bridge using a yellow lifting machine. The beam is being carefully positioned onto newly fitted supports, with several workers guiding it into place along the track.
ALT Close up of a railway bridge deck under construction in wet, rainy conditions. Multiple metal mounting brackets are fixed onto wooden beams, with standing water visible on the surface. Several workers in orange high-visibility clothing stand around the structure, preparing and aligning steel components. A long steel beam runs across the top of the frame.
ALT A Road Rail Vehicle (RRV) carries stacked dark wooden timbers along a track on a bridge. A crane attachment is positioned above the load, ready to lift one beam. Newly installed sleepers and rails are visible beneath, with metal safety walkways on either side.
ALT At Woolwich Arsenal station platform, a large excavator bucket is lifting and unloading ballast stones into an open freight wagon. The wagon is partially filled with grey and brown rocks. A worker in orange high-visibility clothing and a hard hat stands beside the wagon.
