💯 let’s build. not complain and constrain growth
Replying to @lucyhargreaves4
combatting tall poppy syndrome is a big part of the reason we started Build Canada entrepreneurs are the lifeblood of every healthy economy they take huge risks to build ambitious things. many fail. when they do succeed, they create jobs and prosperity. just look at the $11.6B SpaceX made for Ontario Teachers. and they inspire the next generation of builders actively attacking the contribution of successful entrepreneurs is the death knell of a vibrant economy

Cortical responses to balance perturbations persist without active postural control Congrats to my colleagues Daphne Jansen, Lucas Mensink, Matto Leeuwis, and Patrick Forbes for this publication in The Journal of Physiology. See link👇 physoc.onlinelibrary.wiley.c… The findings indicate that the field should re-evaluate the meaning of N1 and midfrontal theta cortical markers in postural control experiments. Their work was also featured on the journal’s Editors choice 👏

At UBC, Vancouver: lots of exciting projects happening with our robotic simulator used for manipulating human-in-the-loop balance control. See recent Science Robotics paper on our robot.
Standing in space and time. See new publication in Science Robotics where our robotic balance simulator was used to unravel relationships between spatial and temporal parameters for human balance control. science.org/doi/10.1126/scir…

Surfing is healing
Most problems can be solved by spending extended time immersed in nature. In the mountains, by a body of water, in a vast jungle. Nature is our reference for beauty. It brings out awe and reminds us of the insignificance of everything. The earth has been around for 4.5 billion years. It will continue to be around long after us. We are irrelevant. For some reason, that realization unlocks everything. P.s. this was in Norway.

On a trail hike yesterday, I met someone who helps lead the buildout of data centers for one of the top US tech companies. I took the opportunity to mention the announcement to build data centers in Vancouver. He raised his eyebrow, citing the issue with city data centers is obviously power availability & space, but even more annoying - regulations for city buildings. That said, he said there could be viable data centers for cities under the right conditions. What are the chances of Vancouver centers being a success?

Another update: We received peer review feedback on our paper. The reviewers were positive, and also had some insightful critical feedback and suggestions. Based on their comments, we are performing some additional analyses. Early results indicate that these analyses will strengthen the story and overall the paper. We’ll get this revision done and share the results soon 💪🏻
Happy to report that this project has been a great success, and is resulting in a couple of manuscripts. We submitted our first article to an open access journal for peer review. Will provide updates as they come. The second article is in preparation and we aim to submit it in the coming months. Thanks for the support @ResearchHub

Thoughts on this @tobi ?
The federal government, Westbank and TELUS have announced three new AI data centres in B.C., including two in Vancouver; one at West Georgia and Beatty, and the second in Mt. Pleasant. It's a multibillion-dollar investment in Canadian data sovereignty and our city. #vanpoli
