Our Sunday 1A side hosted St Paul’s Artane in a 10 goal thriller on Friday night at Station Road. St Paul’s struck first after 3 minutes after a great finish from their left full which caught Newbridge off guard.
Newbridge eventually settled into their rhythm and Conan Kruger fired home to make it 1 a piece. Some sloppy possession from the away side resulted in them going down to 10 men after a foul on the edge of the box. Conan stepped up again to score a brilliant free kick to make it 2-1.
Just before half time Newbridge were awarded a penalty, up stepped leading goalscorer Darragh Bolton but his effort was saved onto the post by the keeper but captain for the night Noah Byrne followed in for a simple tap in to make it a 3-1 lead at half time.
St Pauls started the second half brightly scoring 2 goals in quick succession to bring the game level again. Newbridge once again took the lead through Bolton with a fine finish past the keeper to take his tally to 18 for the league season.
Newbridge scored again through an own goal from the keeper to extend the lead to 5-3. The visitors continued to fight back and their persistence paid off as they got a fourth goal and finally a fifth goal in injury time to claim a share of the points.
Another entertaining evening at Station Road that was full of goals, best of luck to St Paul’s for the rest of the season.
