My father’s faith shaped his public witness, his ministry, and his commitment to justice through nonviolence. When Faith Calls offers a deeper look at the spiritual grounding behind Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s work and why that foundation still matters. I pray this docuseries helps people better understand the connection between faith, courage, and justice. When faith calls, courage is the answer. Stay tuned for more. #WhenFaithCalls #MLK #TheKingCenter

My mother understood that violence is not only physical. It is also found in systems, policies, neglect, and indifference. May we have the courage to confront violence in all of its forms and create a more just, humane world. #CorettaScottKing #Nonviolence365 #BelovedCommunity

#OTD in 1948 my dad graduated from @Morehouse, a milestone that helped set the foundation for his leadership in the civil rights movement. His time there grounded him in purpose, discipline, and a lifelong commitment to justice. To this year’s graduates, may you leave with that same commitment to build, lead, and serve.

The State has now rested its case. The defense asked the court for a directed verdict, arguing that the prosecution failed to meet its burden and prove its case. The judge denied that request, which means the trial now moves into the next phase: the defense will begin presenting its case, calling witnesses, and offering evidence on behalf of Karmelo Anthony. The next several days will be critically important. While I do not expect any significant developments for the remainder of today, I anticipate the defense will begin presenting its case when court resumes on Monday morning. As this trial continues, I want to remind everyone to be responsible about where they get their information. There is an overwhelming amount of misinformation, speculation, and outright falsehoods circulating online. This is exactly why I have consistently urged people not to try this case in the court of public opinion. If you want accurate updates, follow reporters who are actually inside the courtroom. Only a limited number of reporters have been granted permission to have their phones in the courtroom and provide real-time updates. One reporter who has been providing consistent reporting is JD Miles of CBS Texas. His reporting has helped separate facts from rumors, and that is important in a case that has attracted national attention. One important fact that emerged during the prosecution’s presentation was testimony regarding the knife involved in this case. According to testimony presented, the knife measured approximately 3.5 inches, which falls within the legal limits established under Texas law. Whether people agree with those laws or not is a separate discussion. Texas has some of the most unique laws in the country regarding self-defense, weapons, and use-of-force statutes. My position from the beginning has been simple: the law must be applied equally. Justice cannot be selective. The laws of this state cannot be enforced for some people and ignored for others. At the heart of this case remains the principle of due process. Every person deserves a fair trial. Every family deserves dignity. Every defendant deserves the full protections guaranteed by the Constitution. And every verdict must be based on evidence presented in a courtroomnot social media narratives, political agendas, or public pressure. The process is working exactly as it is designed to work. Now we must allow it to continue. #KarmeloAnthony #DueProcess #JusticeForAll #EqualProtection #RuleOfLaw

I will not debate this case with internet commentators or lawyers trying to litigate it on social media. People keep asking whether I believe the State has proven its case. My answer is simple: No. Based on everything I have seen and heard, I do not believe the prosecution has proven the level of intent required for a capital murder conviction under Texas law. This case must be decided by the law not emotion, politics, public pressure, or social media narratives. I am not a lawyer, nor do I speak for Karmelo Anthony’s legal team. I am simply sharing my perspective based on what I have witnessed throughout this process. As a leader, I know we have done everything within our power to ensure Karmelo received a fair trial and the strongest opportunity for a defense. To those who support him: stay patient, stay focused, and don’t allow social media to shake your faith. I still believe God is in control. I still believe justice matters. And I still believe this case will end with a not guilty verdict. Now, we wait. #KarmeloAnthony

This phone call is a reminder of what organizations like NGAN face when we stand for justice, due process, and equal rights for all people. Since the beginning of this case, we have received hateful messages, threats, and intimidation from individuals who believe some people deserve rights while others do not. We share this not for sympathy, but for transparency. Hate still exists. Bigotry still exists. White supremacy still exists. Yet despite the threats, we will continue to stand for truth, fairness, and equal justice under the law. We have come too far as a nation to allow fear to silence those who fight for what’s right. This is why our work matters. #KarmeloAnthony

The Next Generation Action Network is outraged by today’s jury selection process in the Karmelo Anthony trial. The prosecution used its final strikes to remove the remaining qualified Black jurors from the jury pool, raising serious concerns about fairness and equal justice. We respect the court, but we will not remain silent. NGAN will continue monitoring this case and informing the public every step of the way. Every person deserves a fair trial and confidence that justice is being administered without bias. We are calling on the court to ensure Mr. Anthony’s constitutional rights are fully protected. #FairTrial #EqualJustice #NGAN

STAND AGAINST HATE. STAND FOR RELIGIOUS FREEDOM. The Next Generation Action Network (NGAN) is proud to stand alongside the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and Faith Power Alliance: Advancing Justice Through Faith as we unite in defense of the Muslim community and against the dangerous rise of fear, bigotry, and political intimidation. What should have been a joyful celebration of Eid for families across North Texas became a troubling example of how fear and division can be used to target a community exercising its right to gather, worship, and celebrate. We refuse to remain silent. Join us as we demand answers, transparency, and accountability regarding the cancellation of the Eid celebration in Grand Prairie. 📍 Grand Prairie City Hall 300 W. Main StreetGrand Prairie, TX 75050 📅 Tuesday, June 2, 2026🕔 Press Conference: 5:00 PM🕡 Grand Prairie City Council Meeting: 6:30 PM An attack on one faith community is an attack on all of us. Religious freedom must apply to everyone. We cannot allow hate, fear-mongering, or political pressure to dictate who gets to celebrate their faith and who does not. ✊🏾 United by the Spirit of Eid. United Against Hate. United for Freedom.
