This is my Midwest
This has been the prevailing sentiment since long ago…

My take back in March on why it could and might not work with Kyler. Hint: my concerns were always largely about scheme fit Seems like we are at a minor crossroads here. We’ll see how much more he can pick up the offense by training camp
Some thoughts on Kyler and Vikings: Based on recent reports, this feels like the path the Vikings are most likely to take. Why it could work: Kyler has incredible raw talent. He can make plays that very few others can make. He can make a play caller right when it goes wrong 1/

Teasley is guided by evaluation (Kirchner) but anchored by data (Healy). This is why I get paid the big bucks by Vikings Twitter (aka nothing 😂)

Whoa
The Vikings intend to name Andrew Healy and Trent Kirchner as assistant general managers in the coming days, per sources. Huge hires. Healey will serve as the team’s secondary football executive, revered for analytics; Kirchner is a premier evaluator.

Agreed
This may be a hot take, but following many travels, I've determined that THIS is the Midwest. Dakotas are amazing, but are nothing like the Midwest. Missouri feels more like a Southern state than Midwest. Kentucky is more like Tennessee and Virginia than the Midwest.

Good nugget from Mays that MIN EPA/DB without Darrisaw on the field was -0.35 With him on it was -0.08 And as he correctly noted he wasn’t even fully healthy last year (only caveat is he played almost all the wentz snaps and fewer brosmer/jj snaps) podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas…

We’re told 7 on 7 drills don’t matter, but this was interesting. Alec talked with Mike Eayrs, longtime analytics guy for the Vikings and Packers. Who told Alec that in his 40 years in the NFL, 7 on 7 performance was the “number one predictor of success on Sunday.”

On Grigson not being included here
The Vikings are making front office changes, per sources. Assistant GM Demitrius Washington is seeking other opportunities. Senior personnel executive Jamaal Stephenson, senior college executive Pat Roberts and pro scout Salli Clavelle won't return. nytimes.com/athletic/7351453…

What a weird thing to say. Does he just not spend time on Vikings Twitter?
I don't personally know a single Viking fan who wanted or wants J.J. McCarthy to be a bust. It's usually the opposite, in fact.

I don’t know how much this will be talked about because it doesn’t fit the desired narrative of JJ just being a bust
I liked that #Vikings OC Wes Phillips gave kudos to JJ McCarthy when asked about his growth. “It’s just been a continuous upward arrow for him” “There’s several things that we noticed with JJ off the bat that were improvements”

Kevin displayed his willingness to ask the questions that need to be asked when he poked at the Wilfs last week. Completely fair and frankly needed to ask JJ about a trade right now.
Fair to critique coverage. On the trade question: Many many many people have been speculating on whether J.J. McCarthy would be/wants to be/should be traded. Had anyone actually asked him if there is any basis to it? Doesn't that matter? Isn't that the point of access?

If KOC considers the spring the "teaching and learning" phase of the offseason, how can you actually consider that a competition? And if you're going to somehow hand Kyler QB1 right now, the whole competition was a charade (it was). Where is the KOC criticism for all this?
It’s starting to feel to me like they’re using the spring as the “competition” and it won’t bleed into training camp

I spent the last few months saying I’m worried about Kyler’s fit in this offense and now that Kyler is expressing frustration in picking up the offense I see a lot of people say it’s time to just name him QB1. But what if the struggles continue? It’s very chicken or egg

I don’t necessarily disagree here, but both McCarthy and Murray are in impossible positions until one is named the starter. They’re battling each other on the field, in the film room, and at the podium. And my hope is that KOC lets it continue. Iron sharpens iron 😈
"I hate a super cocky arrogant player that is just barely above average... That's Kyler Murray" – @CutonDime25 responds to Kyler's recent presser where he seemed to take subliminal jabs at JJ McCarthy about not getting enough reps WE ARE LIVE youtube.com/watch?v=sEnSh8kI…

The reason Kyler is throwing interceptions is actually the team's fault, not his...
#Vikings QB Kyler Murray on the toughest part of adjusting to Minnesota’s offense: “Having to split reps, me already being behind, not getting the amount of reps you would typically want a guy to get learning the offense, that’s probably the toughest part.”

Amazing
I never met Gordon Wood, but I have a story about him. In one of my grad school seminars, we read Wood’s Creation of the American Republic. The sheer erudition and evidentiary depth of the book bowled me over. Back then, before kids and before life accelerated to warp speed, I used to call my mother every Sunday to catch up. Lots of times, we ended up talking about what I was reading that week in my grad seminars or for leisure. Mom had an omnivorous mind, and she was always looking for something else to read. She was a true intellectual—curious about almost everything, always eager to integrate new arguments or ideas into her existing schemas of how the world worked or to have those schemas challenged and changed. When we talked that particular Sunday, I think I tried to describe to her part of Wood’s argument about the relationship between the state constitutions during the Articles of Confederation era and the federal Constitution. Maybe I was tired, maybe I didn’t completely understand her questions, but the end result of the conversation was that Mom had questions about Wood’s argument that I didn’t answer satisfactorily. I told her that she should probably just read the book, and we said goodbye. She did eventually read the book, but the next Sunday, Mom started our conversation by saying, “Well, I had a lovely conversation with Gordon Wood this week.” For a split second, I thought she was joking, but then I remembered who I was dealing with. I started to sweat. “How?” I asked. A whole variety of unlikely scenarios in which the foremost historian of the American Revolution and my mother, who lived in Wichita, Kansas, might have met ran through my mind. “Oh, I just looked up his office phone number on Brown’s website and called, and he picked up!” Mom said. I decided I would have to find another profession. As it ended up, Gordon Wood spent about an hour on the phone with my mother answering her questions about the Constitution. Ever since, I’ve had a soft spot for the man when I imagine him picking up the phone in Providence and finding Becky Elder from Wichita on the other end of the line. His generosity in that moment spoke very well of him. Rest in peace, professor.

I think the the four teams that make the most sense to me to trade for JJ McCarthy (if he were to be traded): Ravens, Patriots, Chargers, Cardinals Sleeper team: 49ers

I was busy with work recently so I didn’t have a chance to fully dive into the post Teasley introductory presser content. I thought these were critical points made by @SeifertESPN and @alec_lewis The success of this new structure under NT will be largely based on KOC’s ego.

Neither Kevin or Alec said that directly but that’s the cliff notes. It’s essential to remind all of you that just because Kwesi or Nolan had the 53 control by no means they are always driving decision making, especially at the QB position. KOC and Flo will have huge influence

If Nolan/KOC decide trading JJ is in the best interest of the team, I’ll understand. It will be a huge disappointment to both me personally and the team (and JJ) My biggest forward thinking concern would be locking in a K1 extension when we don’t even know if he can stay healthy

Keeping JJ on the team for now both protects against injury, and is leverage against contract negotiations with Kyler. That being said, if keeping JJ is a distraction to letting Kyler captain the lockerroom this year, that may overcome those other concerns
