Our new @Chem_Eng_J paper is online. It continues our work on nitrogen recovery from pharmaceutical wastewater. This time we integrated additional separation technology facilitating desalination and chemicals recycling.

We modified cation exchange membranes to make them monovalent ion-selective, unlocking more sustainable brackish water #desalination. We focused on synthesis practicality and membrane stability.

It has been 245 days since Noa hugged her father and her mother who is terminally ill. It has been 245 days since she was dancing with her friends at the Nova festival.
For 245 days, Noa was held captive by Hamas terrorists who only seek to cause pain and suffering.
Today, Hamas’ torment of Noa came to an end as she was reunited with her loved ones.

So many applications were suggested for membranes that reject divalent ions but let monovalent ions pass, but what about the opposite? In this new study with @TheElimelechLab we show that divalent-selective electrodialysis can be useful.

Conventional cation exchange membranes are inherently divalent-selective, but only at a low current density. Cheaper or more selective membranes can unlock the potential of divalent selectivity, enabling interesting ion-separation applications and creative process design.
