You have to wonder how this could have gone so wrong. £500m for bus priority to bring faster bus journeys and cheaper fares to millions…except, 5 years later it was withdrawn as not enough had been spent by Councils.

Two years have changed nothing. @SPTcorporate want more control over buses but they and their councils already have control of roads. Spending another £400m of taxpayers money every year won’t change this
Spot the bus at the back of this huge queue of cars & vans. Dual carriageway down to one lane because of parking. This is what you get with #PublicControl

Was in this big house last night discussing how to alleviate the issues around getting charging infrastructure to bus depots and charging EV buses. It turns out that the issues bus companies face is a microcosm of the wider economy and the fact that we are transitioning so quickly. More conversations to be had to arrive at solutions but the journey has started. Who knew that Bannockburn and Hounslow had the same problems! Thanks to @ZenobeEnergy and #LordDeben for hosting the round table.

Libraries and buses under threat as chancellor warned over £54bn council black hole Millions of people will suffer as a result of this and I do wonder when activists will understand that public authorities are not immune to budget cuts. The reality is, and always has been, that private bus companies cut services less than public authorities. Work with us to influence what goes on and you will find that bus networks are cheaper to implement, more sustainable and less likely to fall under the Chancellor's axe. #franchising #businessconfiscation independent.co.uk/news/uk/ho…

Your friendly reminder that all McGill’s Group buses have no peak fares! Every fare is off-peak
I sometimes forget how lucky I am that I live on site and have no travel costs. The cost to travel on trains in Scotland is staggering especially when the service has been unreliable with cancellations rife.👇🏻will push more back into cars. Another @theSNP failure 😞

This is why McGill’s is resisting franchising. Not because we have anything against franchising as a method of planning and coordinating public transport, but because of the unjust WAY it is being done. Do it fairly or not at all.
There we go, the death of small operators in Greater Manchester. Stotts, Nexus, and Belle Vue all forced off their service and school work. In the case of Stotts and Nexus, their entire business, gone 😓 What happened to the small contracts designed for SMEs, @AndyBurnhamGM?

Scots bus billionaire claims Labour’s ‘bus revolution’ is doomed to fail heraldscotland.com/news/2457… The report has a couple of wrong assumptions made by the writer @heraldscotland Those monies from the government are not subsidies. The vast majority of it is payment for the journeys made for free and is a subsidy for the people travelling, not the bus company. Lots of these trips were being made before they were made free and even the uplift in journeys because they are free cost in additional buses and staff to deliver them. Including free travel on buses, the money spent by Scottish government on the bus sector is 18% of their public transport budget - in spite of 78% of all public transport trips being made by bus in Scotland. Bus users and potential bus users in Scotland get a raw deal from government compared to rail, underground, tram and ferry users. Let’s stop blaming the companies and sort our priorities first. If politicians want control of buses, buy them back. I’m old enough to remember that they couldn’t wait to sell them off!

A good article and I would recommend reading the full report. Great work by @TransportFocus Also interesting that the SPT area had the best satisfaction with bus services. Certainly begs the question why SPT think they are so bad. As always, there’s more to do but a good endorsement of bus in Scotland

Yutong U18, the articulated model from the new generation Yutong bus family youtu.be/Ii8bv_zYX2w?si=oPNd… via @YouTube 🗣️ Speaking to my old colleagues in Italy, they tell me these are as reliable and efficient as the non bendy buses we run at @mcgillswest Imagine these in Glasgow, Paisley, Dundee, Falkirk, Stirling and Edinburgh! Perfect for airport and university services too. If we can persuade public authorities to introduce world class street infrastructure and realign national ticketing schemes, these would speed up journeys by over 40% (“In one decade, buses in Edinburgh have become 20% slower”) Watch this space…. 🙏 Video courtesy of Sustainable Bus Magazine 🚎

I wonder if that (Sustrans) is what is behind the diesel bus ban in the @SNP manifesto? (link below⬇️) We know the Holyrood manifesto on diesel buses crashed and burned and this will too. My worry is that those in the room when this manifesto was created clearly have no idea of the reality. Scotland is leading the UK in decarbonising the bus fleet, don't cock it up with ludicrous unachievable targets. busandcoachbuyer.com/snps-pr…

On yer bike ! From the Shetlands to the Central Belt , @scotgov Quango @transcotland along with supposed “charity “ @Sustrans have em’peddled £1 million per week of our money to wreak/ empty our inner cities and town centres ..why have they been allowed to do this during a cost of living crisis ? 😡@ByCraigMcDonald

Really informative footfall stats. The bus station serves more than double the number of passengers of Haymarket Station. Imagine the furore if Haymarket were to be closed.
Edinburgh transport hubs (passengers per year): 1. Waverley - 18.213 million. 2. Edinburgh Airport - 14.395 million. 3. Edinburgh Bus Station - 5 million. (tbc) 4. Haymarket - 2.308 million. edinburghnews.scotsman.com/t… @donturvLDR

Today, another angel is in heaven - far, far too soon. One of our Duty Managers, who was a powerhouse in her role during the time we built @mcgillswest has been taken so very young. @CJWMediaPaisley you are in all of our thoughts, Sarah will always be remembered with admiration and love here at McGill’s. 💙

But public control is so much better. Public control of public transport will see an end to cuts? 10% of Bee network services cancelled daily. Do people realise they are in the process of being duped?
