📢A new paper from the @SupraterraUAB group, with collab. of @uni_mainz_eng researchers, explores fold to thrust nappes transition using #numericalmodelling. We show that hinge migration can explain km-scale overturned limbs observed in some fold nappes. sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

Extensional sandbox model with some interesting normal fault-related folding. A couple of sections contain 3 anticlines due to closely spaced faults in a transfer zone. Model uses a baseplate with irregular edge to create the transfer zone.

Two fold-thrust belt sandbox models reflecting (unbelievably) about the same amount of shortening. Buckle folds and minor, but very numerous, faults can accommodate a lot of displacement! Fault displacements in the lower model are huge but there are only two major structures.

However annoyed with the multiple paleomag bores along the path (several news, still dust on the ground) really do you need to take eleven samples from the same place? I'm tired of the missing geoethics of some members of the paleomag crowd
