Something worth mentioning regarding the new Steam update:
The real power behind the new personal calendar tool is the fact that it's not *just* a forward facing timeline.
Before, with the Popular Upcoming list, many indie games appeared and vanished in a matter of hours. Lost from anyone's memory. I can recall multiple times I saw a game that looked cool on that list, said I'd check it out later, only to come back to the list and be unable to find it. I couldn't remember the name, barely remembered the capsule art. It was just gone.
The personal calendar widget on the front page fixes that by showing games that ALSO released *yesterday* as well as new games for today, tomorrow, etc. This removes the time crisis that shoppers may feel to "look at everything before it's gone" and gives games even MORE visibility to casual shoppers. In fact, if shoppers want, they can scroll backwards and see games that released a whole month ago - all right there on the steam front page!
I said it when the update dropped and I'll say it again: this update is a huge win for indies.
