I mostly agree. The biggest irony of modern card shows is that everyone shows up because they love the hobby and then spends the entire day acting like a spreadsheet. A room full of people trying to extract value from each other instead of creating it. The best deals I’ve found in the last year weren’t at card shows. They were online, late at night, when nobody else was paying attention.
Card shows have lost all their appeal. Behind the tables dealers price everything way above market. In front of the tables buyers are glued to their phones refreshing eBay sold listings every second. Wanting the lowest sale. Everyone already knows exactly what their cards are worth because they bought them and track the market they own religiously. Everyone shows up wanting the absolute best deal on buys and the highest possible profits on sales. There’s nothing but pure entitlement and everyone wanting to one up each other. Nobody wants to meet in the middle on fair prices. At this point, why even bother dealing with the overpriced tables and bad energy when you can just buy and sell online in peace? You can’t find the same deals you win on eBay at card shows. Prove me wrong. @CardPurchaser

At this point it’s becoming hard to ignore. Black Bolt IR after Black Bolt IR is doubling. Low supply. Growing demand. Incredible artwork. The market is finally catching up.

A lot of people ask why anyone would pay $3/month for a Pokémon subscription. Fair question. So instead of telling you, I’ll show you. A thread of cards we discussed BEFORE they moved: 🧵1/6

Get in while you can yall! This is the best subscription I have and it’s only 3$! One move makes you 10 times that!

Most subscriptions end when you pay. This one starts there.

The artwork is incredible. The Pokémon is widely liked. The listings remain surprisingly thin. The market is finally catching up. Keep an eye on cards where supply is the real story.

Two months ago I started talking about Chinese exclusives. Most people laughed them off. “Nobody wants Chinese cards.” “They’re not collectible.” “Stick to English and Japanese.” Meanwhile, many of the people who subscribed, paid attention and actually bought them are sitting on some very healthy gains. That’s the difference between following the crowd and following the data. My goal isn’t to tell you what’s already popular. My goal is to find what could become popular before everyone else notices. For less than the price of a booster pack each month, subscribers get access to my research, watchlists, signals and collection insights. Sometimes all it takes is one good call. $3/month. Worth it? Ask the people who bought the Chinese exclusives.

The Pokémon hobby has convinced itself that grading creates value. Most of the time it doesn’t. It reveals value that was already there. Give me a beautiful, scarce card in a binder over a random PSA 10 any day. The cardboard matters more than the plastic.
