John was a paradox.He was establishment (no creator rights) yet hired maverick creators (me, Gerry Finley-Day,John Wagner etc). He encouraged change, wanted to get rid of the old regime and nearly got me appointed managing editor. If he had, I'd have got rid of all the dead wood.
