Yesterday, the Nuria Beach Book Club gathered at Links Arcade, Nuria Nyali Branch, for aconversation around Mad Women: True Stories of Defiant Kenyan Women, as told to Joan Thatiah. The discussion brought together ten real stories of wives, daughters, lovers, and mothers who chose to step outside the boundaries society had drawn for them, women who, as the book reminds us, are not heroines in the conventional sense. It's exactly the kind of book that sparks reflection long after the last page, and our members proved that yesterday. Missed the session? You can still grab your copy of Mad Women at KShs 1,250.00, available at Nuria Bookstore. nuriakenya.com/product/mad-w…

Yesterday was a great one at Nuria Bookstore. We hosted a Mental Health session with Gakuru Githinji, who opened up about his journey and shared insights from his memoir, The Present Hindsight. The Present Hindsight by Gakuru Githinji is an impactful memoir that frames a deeply personal journey through medical trauma, identity, and mental health advocacy. In it, Githinji details the devastating aftermath of an operation that caused him to lose all of his past memories, and the path he walked toward rebuilding his sense of self. Conversations like these remind us why mental health advocacy matters, and why stories like Githinji's deserve to be heard. nuriakenya.com/product/the-p…

Read: The Will to Succeed : An autobiography by Micah Cheserem (Former Governor of Central Bank of Kenya) An autobiography of Micah Cheserem, an accountant, corporate executive, and the fifth Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK). nuriakenya.com/product/the-w… KShs1,200.00 @NuriaStore
President Daniel Moi was the real deal. He used to hire and fire people through the 1 p.m. KBC Radio Taifa news bulletin. At one point, he appointed Micah Cheserem as the governor of the Central Bank of Kenya while Cheserem was in Malawi working for Unilever. According to Cheserem, he heard about his appointment on the Friday news, then called the President. Moi informed him that he was expected to report to work on Monday. Cheserem politely explained that he worked for an international company and needed time to give notice. Moi's response? "Fine, start on Tuesday." 🤣 And that was it. No interview. No vetting. No parliamentary approval. No endless HR emails. Just a radio announcement and a presidential deadline extension of 24 hours. We've come a long way as a country! 😄
