Condensate fans and attendees of #apsmarch! Consider sending your abstract (due Oct 25!) to: "Bio-inspired phase-separation" the @ApsDsoft and @ApsDbio focus session I am organizing with @SamWilken_ (session # 02.01.20 or, identically 04.01.39) Thanks!

Another paper from super post-doc @SamWilken_ on DNA nanostars, quantifying the delay for droplet appearance after a quench. The dynamics are consistent with distinct nucleation and spinodal decomposition regimes, and we map the spinodal curve. More here: doi.org/10.1063/5.0204125

Happy to share our just-published review article on liquids (condensates) formed from nucleic acids. We tried to be pretty comprehensive, yet during the publication process ~6 more papers in the area appeared...ah well. see here, hope you like it: iopscience.iop.org/article/1…

We are saddened as we share that Nobel Laureate and emeritus professor Herb Kroemer has passed away. He was 95. The visionary theoretician and experimentalist brought forth ideas that literally changed our world. Read about his pioneering work and tributes engineering.ucsb.edu/news/no…

Blob science: While here I am known for DNA “blobs” (condensates), I also study polymer “blobs”, as in our recent paper on Pincus blobs in disordered proteins (in the EPJE Pincus Festschrift). Permit me a thread on the personal and scientific significance: doi.org/10.1140/epje/s10189-…

The personal significance is that this experimental Pincus-blob tool was critical to my career (read: tenure), and further was developed with Fyl as my colleague at UCSB; thus it was particularly meaningful to put this paper into the Pincus Festschrift!

Finally I must point out that the EPJE work was carried out by spectacular students, Frank Truong and Ian Morgan, and in a great collaboration with Roy Beck @roy00452504

Check out our recent publication (rdcu.be/dyVe5), showing how fascinating intrinsically disordered proteins are, aggregating to star-like nanostructures or stretched as charged polymers. Thank you Mathar, Gil, and @OASaleh for this beautiful collaboration
