The Katsina State Government confirmed the development in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasiru Muazu, saying the retired senior military officer died from complications arising from diabetes and hypertension while being held by his abductors. The retired Major-General was travelling to Katsina on Saturday, May 30, 2026 alongside his wife, Amina Abubakar, and their driver, Abdullahi Sa’idu, when their vehicle was ambushed along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli Road in Matazu Local Government Area. Days before his death, a video circulated online showing the retired Army General appealing to authorities to meet the demands of his captors to secure his release. According to the state government, extensive efforts by security agencies and the Katsina State Government to secure his freedom were unsuccessful. Governor Dikko Umaru Radda described the incident as a tragic loss to the family, Katsina State, and the nation, noting that the development highlights the urgent need for stronger collaboration in addressing insecurity.
