We are excited to announce the first complete genome sequencing and assembly of the southern marsupial mole by @aj_pask @sfberg @OMGenomes@BioplatformsAus @CharlieFeigin @BioSci_UniMelb N50 20Mb & BUSCO recovery of 93%. We can't wait to learn more about this enigmatic marsupial.
Itās a great day. Our second southern brown bandicoot in our long term research sites this year, and itās a mum!!
We have not had a SBB on any of our sites since 2013, so this second one is great news indeed.
Hope you day is as good as our field team is having.
Ok, when was the last time @abcnews had two lead stories about the conservation of native Australian rodents, on the same day?! I'll say never, and hence that this is a great day!
Amazing effort underpinning the brand new publication led by @Emily_Roycroft and supported through our @OMGenomes initiative. This project investigated the rapid decline and extinction of Australian rodents, links to the publication available in Emily's thread

"Effective population size" (Ne) can be used as an indicator of change in genetic diversity. For species with limited genetic data we need a proxy, e.g. census population size (Nc). Here are new recommendations: when to use Ne vs Nc. #ConservationGeneticsdoi.org/10.1007/s10592-021-0ā¦
