My grandad is in hospital at the moment and I’ve come to help him with lunch. When I went to reception, I told them my grandad’s name and they had no idea who I was talking about. They then checked the system and referred to him as “B5”. My grandad is NOT his bed number. 1/2
Tomorrow marks #WorldOTDay with a theme of #OccupationalTherapy for All. Currently, OT is not safe for ‘All’. Let’s stand with our colleagues and others in Palestine, knowing that OT cannot access ‘All’ across the world.
Do you remember Mahmoud? An Occupational therapist from Gaza who started the “Tent of Hope” in Rafah/Gaza to provide OT services. He later had to shut it down &was displaced due to attacks by Israeli forces
Mahmoud wrote a letter to the OT community on World OT day

I’ve been toing and froing about returning to this account after a turbulent couple of years. But I’m about to start a very exciting new team lead role and have decided it’ll be a great opportunity to re-join the supportive #OccupationalTherapy#MentalHealth community on here💚
It’s very likely that more people are going to die of Covid in the UK this year than will seek asylum. Apparently we’re only worried about one of these issues, and it’s the wrong one.
Today, April 13,2022 I am no longer using the term “imposter syndrome”. Last night Dr.@atachine informed me this concept was developed by two white women to explain why minoritized folks feel like outsiders or face self-doubt
Finally graduated 😭🎓 almost ten years ago I was sectioned under the MHA and had an occupational therapist who asked what mattered to me - all the blood sweat and tears later, six years after I started and almost two years after qualifying I did it ❤️
So many of us working in #NHS hospitals are so exhausted. Staffing is low, many of us are sick, movement within hospitals is extortionate. We can’t just manifest the idea that ‘the NHS is coping’. We’re so tired. #DowningStreetBriefing
I should add that it’s not just the NHS that isn’t coping, I’m only speaking from my experience. Another clear example is teaching - classes are merging and retired teachers are being called back due to Covid-related sicknesses. There are many services that are not coping.
So excited to finally be starting my sensory integration PGCert next week! Definitely nervous about managing a full-time job alongside studying but I know the learning will be invaluable. I’m officially a student again 🎉
Another notable mention for #InternationalWomensDay, this time by @nktgill. I highly recommend Nikita’s book ‘wild embers’, I’ve read at least one poem most evenings for a couple of years now and it is truly empowering #internationalwomensday2021
I took an antibody test 2 months after testing positive for Covid and 1 month after having my first dose of the vaccine, just got my result and it came back negative. I know it’s not unusual but feels quite invalidating!
This!!
I am the only non white person in my cohort and it has felt a bit lonesome at times, but seeing BAME student accounts have made me feel a part of a bigger movement in the OT world #BAME#OTD
I’ve stumbled across a lot more BAME occupational therapy accounts lately and it makes me so happy! I was one of two BAME students in my year whilst at uni and I think I met only one black OT student during my three years of study. We certainly have a very looong way to go...

I work with young offenders in London and last time I checked, our clientele was around 85% BAME. I’m one of only 3 OTs (so 33% BAME) but I think it’s fair to say that many OT teams in London (and other big cities at least) do not represent their clientele in terms of ethnicity.
found out from my smear test that I have something I wouldn't of known otherwise which needs monitoring, can't tell you girls how important they are ❤️
