There's no mistake you can't get away with when the scale is small. It is only at a large scale that otherwise manageable change becomes daunting. Ensuring that the software can continue to evolve is the great discriminator. Features are easy to copy, quality is hard to achieve. "Software is supposed to be soft, and indeed is in principle; nothing can be easier than to change a program if you have access to its source code. Just use your favorite text editor.
