Planning an update to the menu gallery later this month when I get a little more free time. I've collected a number of menus from friends with newer discs I don't have, so hopefully, it'll be a sizable update when I get it done.

Good news! The website is FINALLY back to functionality! Hosting company finally just gave me a complete backup from late 2023 and I was able to cajole it into working enough to get stuff updated and back to being stable.

This also includes the menu art gallery. I may coordinate with some folks that have continued buying various BDs after I stepped away so that I can get those added to the gallery at some point in the near future.

Cookin' up the finishing touches on those Drive specials. Hopefully everyone's looking forward to those dropping in the next few days or so. It's gonna be one big batch with all of them together because there's no point in releasing them individually.

It'll get linked here when it goes up because the website database was destroyed in a botched migration and my host has no backups from before they moved the site from the failing hardware to the new server so 🤷‍♂️

On the other hand, High Speed, Lupin, and Zero are all native and look fine. Tokujo and Brain are already known to be native anyway.

So a few more updates on some of the Zero-One BD technical things: - The movie is also 30fps like the rest of the series. I can't fathom why it ever would have been converted to 30i in the first place.

Also, I want to be very clear in that while I'm nitpicking the technical stuff, as far as the quality of the subs (TL, editing, styling, etc.), these are excellent. If Shout addresses the technical problems & we get this caliber of subs on a future release, I'd be super pleased.

In fact, given the general encode quality, I wouldn't even complain about the hardsubs. Still prefer softsubs on disc myself, but these were done well enough that I wouldn't care on future releases.

So, got my US Zero-One BDs today and thought I'd do some comparisons to my Toei BDs. slow.pics/c/4lvzRjak These are directly captured from AvsPMod with zero post-processing on either file.

The above aside, the actual encode quality as far as compression goes, at least from a cursory glance, is quite good. Any differences I can see are basically down to computational differences in the encoding, which isn't something you can control.

For me, the messy deinterlacing is probably the most annoying because it goes back to wondering why Toei is providing 30i broadcast masters for a 24p native show. These are issues that shouldn't exist in the first place, but they do and we're stuck with them.
