Duncan being revived throughout the books over and over again is the best literary plot in sci-fi It grounds the reader through an otherwise millennia-spanning journey you don’t feel detached from the universe because there’s ALWAYS a Duncan lurking somewhere doing shit
Jason Momoa as Hayt in ‘DUNE: PART 3’.

the main character in Dune isn't Paul Atreides. Paul disappears eventually from the story and is only mentioned in passing in later books. Duncan Idaho remains until the very end, and is actually the last person we read about in the last book.

I'm sitting right next to a guy coding C# by hand using VS Code with light theme, stock font, no customization whatsoever, 1 terminal window open. I have such an urge to discover who this person is

I have to keep reminding myself that It's not just about solving the problem, but making sure anyone who reads your code can follow my logic.

In software development, clarity beats cleverness. Write code as if the next person to read it knows where you live. Good devs understand the importance of readability and simplicity

Uhm I do all those things and have always done all those things while having kids Do people really think kids prevent you from enjoying life or something? They actually make everything more enjoyable

Going to have a cake as a couple? Meh that’s ok Going with your kids? BEST EST EVER. CAKEEEE. it becomes the highlight of the day Going for a walk alone? Nice. With kids? It becomes an adventure. Honestly everything is far better with kids.

Don’t mistake kids being annoying with your inability to be a loving, caring parent. If you’re a child-adult that can’t cope with the banality of life then sure, maybe you can’t cope with taking care of another person. But kids aren’t the problem, at all.

The problem with YA fiction is that it’s too wide a range. Things like The Hobbit or Ender Games are often called “young adult fiction” when they’re not. I kind of agree a lot of YA is mediocre, but it’s also useful to learn to differentiate genres as a reader.

Taught 11 yo about the concept of "young adult fiction" and that he should just skip it and go straight to books written for adults.

Plus it’s not like “adult” books aren’t mediocre. By definition most stuff isn’t great, there’s no way around it. There’s just far more for “adults”, so it’s easier to pick the good stuff. Adults also have had more time to read, hence find the good stuff

I'm struggling to let my daughter watch on her ipad unattended. Youtube is filled with random garbage, and Netflix kids is for babies (she's 8), but all of Netflix has too much adult stuff. Recommendations?
