ALT statement of support for the occupation of dahshan school (known previously as east school)
ALT The October Club fully supports the autonomous student occupation of the East School — which has since been renamed to Dahshan School. Oxford University continues to support the genocide of the Palestinian people through its financial investments, research partnerships, and academic ties.
ALT The vice chancellor and university administration have resisted negotiation with Oxford Action for Palestine. Even after entering into meetings, the university has tried to impose restrictions on student protest. The administration is not listening to their students, instead aiming to disband the student movement on their terms.
ALT The October Club has a long-standing commitment to Anti-Imperialism. Oxford University is a continuing hub of the British imperial core. The goal of the Palestinian movement is not only the freedom of the Palestinian people but the freedom of all people oppressed by imperialism. Any disruption to exams could have been prevented by the university listening to students and cutting ties with genocide, occupation, and apartheid - and we must acknowledge that any disruption is far less than that experienced by Gazan scholars, who have seen every university in the territory destroyed.
ALT This independent action puts further pressure on the university administration and vice chancellor to continue negotiations with OA4P and reminds them of the power of the student body. These students have taken action against a heart of world imperialism. This, the October Club wholeheartedly supports.

ALT October club statement entitled "in support of the Oxford 17". Statement text reads "Last Thursday, we were shocked and horrified to see the Vice Chancellor, Irene Tracey, call the police on her own students for taking part in a peaceful sit-in, and to see those same police violently attack peaceful protestors supporting their comrades, injuring students and community members who came out in solidarity. We were further appalled to see Irene Tracey directly lie to students and staff in an email sent later that day. The claims that protestors “physically handled the receptionist”; that the sit-in was “a violent action designed to escalate tensions”; and that members of the encampment “have created a deeply intimidating environment” are categorically false. It was Thames Valley Police who physically handled members of the public on Thursday, and arrested students who had agreed to leave the building voluntarily upon being asked to do so by those same officers.
