The moment an almost intact mortarium was excavated at the Uncovering Roman #Carlisle dig. The contents will be analysed in the lab. These Roman mixing bowls were part of every good kitchen #archaeology #HadriansWall

An adorable little #Roman dog figurine, some 1700 years old - once an ornament, a lucky charm, or a child's toy, perhaps..?

Hands down one of my favourite #Roman mosaics ever. Bonus marks for the mosaicist actually knowing what an octopus looks like (not always the case with Roman animal mosaics) 🐙
A charming little octopus from a #Roman villa at Villaquejida, León, Spain. Limestone, 2nd-3rd century AD 🐙❤️ Museo Arqueológico Nacional, Madrid 📷 by me #MosaicMonday #Archaeology
