I wanted to post this as a quick demonstration of memory layout. nNode is located on the heap which lies at a higher address location than the code segment. Though obvious to most here, this is a good and quick demonstration of memory layout.

Added an OS fingerprinting switch and was able to at least have the six probe packets sendable, with their 110 ms spacing. I need to do a deep dive into the match points that nmap uses to interpret the responses. Goal is to interpret the SEQ,OPS,WIN, and T1 lines.

OS fingerprinting is unbelievably fascinating. Been doing a deep dive into how it works. My next goal is to implement the 6 packet probe similar to NMAP.

I took a deep dive into ICMP headers last night with a little detour into packet fragmentation. Unbelievably fascinating! Also read about John Postel and his vision of bifurcating what was at that time just TCP into TCP/IP. Data transportation is akin to magic ā¦

The tcp checksum issue was resolved. Used a checksum buffer for the pseudo header and the tcp header. Next Iād like to implement ICMP and have some fun with it.

The IP checksum is correct, but not the TCP checksum. This is a real head scratcher.

The packets being sent through the raw socket are not eliciting a response. It looks like there is an issue with the checksum function according to wireshark and the packets are getting dropped. I will need to work on the checksum function and figure out what is going on

Got the raw socket portion working so now a user can add their own custom flags. Still need to remove the printfs I was using to debug š¬

Working on a TCP Scanner in C for practice and have been battling a bug that turned out to be an easy fix meanwhile I littered the lines and structures with puts and printfs š
