While composting can attract some beneficial decomposers, a well-managed compost pile should not attract pests such as rats, raccoons, or flies. Avoid composting meat, dairy, and oily foods. Aerated and balanced compost piles discourage pest activity. ocasa.wildapricot.org/Member…

Compost Myth: Composting creates a foul odor.
Truth: Properly managed compost has an earthy, pleasant smell. Odors only occur if the pile is too wet, lacks aeration, or contains inappropriate materials like meat or dairy.
