How will we do it? First get elected and win the powers of the executive. Emergency declaration day one as per S.F. this month. Bring in law enforcement from the entire state. Stand up a temporary secure jail on city property. Stand up two temporary secure treatment centers one for addiction and one for mental illness on city property away from our neighborhoods. Use military construction and medical battalions to build and staff these facilities quickly. Just like we did in Seattle at the beginning of COVID. Arrest for crimes. Give the non violent a choice of serving out one year in jail or completing a two year treatment program with one year of work. For those that complete treatment re-entry into society with free training and temporary abstinence based housing. For those that refuse jail ( where there will be treatment options waiting for them). For the mentally ill a new life away from the sidewalks and the drug dealers and the pimps, secure state of the art long term residential treatment. To build long term we will work with RFK and our new HUD secretary to build long term city owned facilities with federal grants/loans and all other forms of assistance directly to Seattle bypassing Olympia and King County. Never again does the city have to be at the mercy of politicians who don’t have to live with the consequences of their actions.
