Husband/father observing the collapse of the west while plotting a way into the future. I'm into retro computers/futurism, pixel art and games, and some coding.
I managed to rework the extra-half-bright palette to get some saturated brown for the wall...So update! I guess it pays to wait a while before posting. Also, I put together a process gif. #pixelart
I did this on my Amiga over four days looking at my phone. A Storyville prostitute taken by E.J. Bellocq ~1912. I've been a bit captivated by her since I discovered her pics a few years ago. I may do the other two known pics of her later on.

Delicious and challenging popcorn. I tried to speed through this today after work before dinner but needed a bit more after eating with my wife and kids. 64 x 64 px Amiga EHB palette. #pixelart#weeklypixels
The colored light on the kettle in our staff kitchen was interesting today. Blue sky, green plants and a bright overhead light. I took a pic for practice. 64x64 Amiga OCS palette. Scale is off. The overall brightness reminds me of early raytracing reflections. #pixelart
I hope this will be my final version of the witch player character in my game. (Of course if it takes me another two years to complete the engine and level editor I'll probably redesign her again.) I'm now making a reference sheet before animating. #pixelart
End of the week and right on through the weekend has been busy. Finally got a chance to sit down at the computer. The dandilion puff was a challenge to get how I pictured it. #pixelart#weeklypixels
When I was very small we had a C64. In 1987 my Dad got an Amiga 500. Before the internet and browsers there was the BBS, disk swapping and cover disks. These are the artists and artworks I was influenced by as a child.

In 2024 the Witch went through another revision. I dropped the outline and the large eyes, removed unnecessary detail, and started over on the walk and run cycles. I also decided that getting her hat would be the opening quest of the game so no hat here. #pixelart
Just noticed the frame timing is a bit jumpy. I guess I will need to tweak that for X uploads when I export from Aseprite. (I use IFF2GIF to convert Amiga .anim to .gif and then scale up 4x in Aseprite.)
2024 and I played through a #nsfw roguelike called Scarlet Maiden on Steam. I took a stab at a similar scale/character proportions. I was also trying to play with forward movement that was not side-on like my other walk/run cycles. #pixelart
More of the witch game concept. Scaled up the design and played with the look. I did some some walk and run animations. I quickly soured on this design and the stiffness of my animation.
One more anim set showing walk, run, and turn. I never finished a jump animation. These were used in testing the input and figuring out the physics of the game engine. (At some point I will upload a video showing the current state of the engine and editor.) #pixelart
2023 and a game video reminded me of "Vixen" 1988. I My Dad had it on the Amiga and it was terrible. After watching the video I played around with a sort of sprite-over concept. One comment called mine reimagining "Thicxen." Yeah, and I happily agree with that.

Here is a partial mockup with my second attempt at a tileset and a few other things. I did end up animating the bat. It'll probably get posted at some point. #pixelart
From 2022: IBM PC had CGA. My Amiga had Workbench 1.x. What can you do for a game with white, black, orange, and blue? Eventually I played with a 32 color palette.

In 2023 I played a clone of Joust. I also started the Bible. I had an idea for a strongly themed game where you play as angel defending humans from demons and the lustful intentions of fallen angels. I tried to see how small I could go and have things be recognizable.

In 2020 she became this from this doodle I did on my phone. I stuck with this design for a long time while developing the engine and testing methods for infinite scrolling, collision, and worked on formatting the level data. Animation was better too.

I'm seeing comments around where people are down on themselves for their current skill level. This is distressing. So I'm going to be a bit vulnerable and start sharing stuff I've been doing since 2017 when I started getting back to art after ~14 years. Descriptions in comments.
I've had a concept for a witch game in my head since 2009. These are some of the early doodles I did in 2017. I am still working on the design but I have been actively writting the game engine in AmosPro on the Amiga since 2020.
The bell was just a bell.
