Our first speaker is Drew Feeney, a PhD student at @EdinburghNapier - his doctoral project is titled '‘New Clicks’: developing user-led digital literacies in older adults within Scottish public libraries'. #StudentResearchShowcase24
We're just about to kick off this year's Student Research Showcase, organised in conjunction with @SALCTG. If you're going to tweet, our hashtag is #StudentResearchShowcase24.
Our fourth and final featured #StudentResearchShowcase24 speaker is Benjamin Holder from @Strath_iSchool who is investigating the impact of reading and meditation on mental health.
ALT Test reads: "Student Research Showcase Presenters. Bio: My name is Benjamin Holder and I’m from the US. I once worked in Japan and there I came across a book about the brain and how it worked and related to the rest of the body. Since then, I’ve been researching the brain and the body and trying to figure out how to use all of this information to not only improve my own mental health, but the mental health of everyone I come across. I’ve also always been an avid reader, so to me, a library setting seemed like the best place to bring these two things together."
Using meditation as a comparator—which has been well researched and documented to show the positive effects in brain structure—this paper will argue that
reading has similar effects on the brain. #StudentResearchShowcase24
