Interesting recent Pension Ombudsman ruling. NHSBSA were ordered to pay £1,000 "for the serious distress and inconvenience caused by its maladministration" Dr S has complained that NHSBSA has failed to send him a Pension Saving Statement (PSS) automatically for the tax years 2016/17, 2017/18, and 2018/19. Thousands are still waiting for their RPSS and 23/24 PSS. Could get expensive if this catches on! Full details here: pensions-ombudsman.org.uk/de…

You need more protein as you grow older. And if people aren’t drinking much think about gravy, yoghurt, jellies, soups. It all adds up. #LeedsFrailtyEd

This is just a single day’s worth of disposable tourniquets from our emergency department. It equates to a whopping 80k tourniquets per year! Following a successful trial of Daisygrip tourniquets we are working with the trust to make the switch to reusable. @GreenED_uk

I can’t stress enough how important this is This will create a significant and potentially profound risk to worsening inequalities I know an equality impact assessment wasn’t possible pre bill stage So I’ve spoken to 98 disadvantaged racialised individuals to inform myself of the risks to these groups as someone who leans towards legalisation and works closely with these groups - and concerns about assisted dying and not wanting to access healthcare facilities such as hospitals due to fear was THE most striking finding We have seen this during covid and still today the impacts are clear-worries about covid vaccines have spilled over to all vaccines including childhood vaccines This is something that can be accounted for in the bill to avoid preventable harm to those who are already significantly disadvantaged at the end of life #AssistedDyingBill
Leadbeater #AssistedSuicide Bill committee 19 March: @NazShahBfd quotes Dr @JamillaHussain1, who said in written evidence: It is essential to clarify where AD can take place. My consultation with a range of ethnic minority groups across Bradford highlighted the risk that AD could significantly deepen mistrust in healthcare services, including but not limited to #palliativecare. This must be considered when determining AD locations-preferably avoiding healthcare settings that these communities rely on, such as hospitals and hospices. publications.parliament.uk/p…

Leadbeater #AssistedSuicide Bill committee 19 March: @NazShahBfd quotes Dr Sarah Cox (@APMPostTweets President): I am also concerned about our #palliativecare workforce, which we know is already in crisis. 83% of our members told the Royal College of Physicians in 2023 that they had staffing gaps, and more than 50% were unable to take leave because of those staffing gaps. 43% said that if assisted dying were implemented within their organisation, they would have to leave. This has a massive impact on palliative care, in terms of its potential to develop both our funding and our workforce, who are really concerned about this. hansard.parliament.uk/common…
