Curtain calls after War Requiem with the São Carlos forces at the Teatro Camões. A work that hasn’t lost its power given in a gripping performance from forces that had been superbly prepared. The solo singing was excellent, with Dos Santos’ tenor solos sung with such feeling
I’m delighted to be at the Teatro Camões for the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos concert performance of Britten’s War Requiem. With Sequeira, Dos Santos, Baleiro, the Coro do TNSC, Coro da Escola de Música do Colégio Moderno, Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa. Jenkins conducts
I saw a Salome @operaballetvl yesterday that was an impressive show to look at, thrillingly played & conductor but with a very problematic account of the title role. Read about it here: operatraveller.com/2025/01/1…
Curtain calls after Salome @operaballetvl A very visual staging by Mondtag that gives so much to reflect on. Pérez & his orchestra were sensational as was Smoriginas’ Jochanaan. Cook’s Salome had plenty of scenic energy but her singing took the pitches on the page as suggestions
Last night, I saw the German premiere production of Innocence at the Musiktheater im Revier. It was superbly done at all levels and confirmed the work's status as a true 21st century masterpiece. Read about it here: operatraveller.com/2025/01/1…
Curtain calls after Innocence at the Musiktheater im Revier. A confirmation that this work is a true 21st-century masterpiece. The quality of the orchestral playing & choral singing was superb. Stöppler’s staging was logical and effective and it was honestly sung
I’m delighted to be paying my first visit to the Musiktheater im Revier for Innocence in its 1st staging in Deutschland. With Sturludóttir, Genet, Allen, Gwenxane, Nelson, Kranjc, Sieloff, Hammerberg & more. Rauhalammi conducts Stöppler’s staging
The first review of 2025 is up! Last night I saw a decent repertoire performance of La bohème at the Oper Köln, very well conducted, with a youthful cast in a thoughtful staging. Read more here:

Curtain calls after La bohème at Oper Köln. A decent repertoire performance from a youthful cast in a staging that has feeling and humanity. That said, the house can’t move back to Offenbachplatz soon enough
I’m delighted to be starting my operatic 2025 at the Oper Köln for La bohème with Hinterdobler, Espiritu, Turk, Hindrichs, Schwaiger, Seidl & more. Marani conducts Hampe’s staging
2024 in 16 images. From Hamburg, to Buenos Aires, Palermo to São Paulo. As always, social media only really sees the good tings & not the struggles behind the scenes. But overall, I’m feeling much gratitude for having had so many beautiful moments
