A man has opened up about the crisis currently threatening his engagement.
A few months after getting engaged, his fiancée confessed that she was attracted to both men and women and wanted to explore that side of herself before marriage.
She insisted she still loved him and wanted to get married and she wanted to do the exploring on her own.
He told her that sounded more like cheating than exploration and suggested postponing the wedding while they figured things out.
After days of research, therapy discussions, and difficult conversations, he finally agreed to consider opening the relationship.
Then he asked a simple question:
“If you’re allowed to date other people, am I allowed to date other people too?”
She went completely silent.
It had never occurred to her that he might want the same freedom she was asking for.
The wedding is now on hold.
