People throw around "psychosis" a lot with AI, but using it to solidify vague sense memories, cobbled together with movies and commercials, from a time before you had a concrete idea of yourself or reality cannot be good for your psyche
It's rare that AI video makes me feel any emotion. But these "nostalgiamaxxing videos" really do capture what it's like to grow up in the 90's Credit: homeforchristmasofficial

My biggest issue was the emphasis on the power of language and framing to improve people's perceptions of oppressed groups and reduce discrimination rather than organizing for policy changes that would increase the political/economic power of those groups
For those of us (nearly everyone) who recognize Woke 1.0 as a failure, what’s something specific you’re willing to say it got wrong? Here’s mine: the practice of describing policies that were, like, Kerner Commission recommendations as β€œprison abolition” to get attention was dumb

Still unfortunately really common, especially in feminist spaces

Repairing the side seam of an urban outfitters top I thrifted a couple of years ago and just realized all the seams are bias bound? Even fast fashion used to be so much better it's crazy

everyone’s personality is a response to abuse actually and now we all have to live with the consequences and figure out to be in the world without any particular claims to epistemic authority #ItsAllFucked
β€œpeople pleasing is a response to abuse” okay and me not liking people pleasers is a response to abuse so what now. exactly shut up and go to therapy

I would warn people against the belief that any individual or group has been so specifically, thoroughly, and uniquely victimized that it is categorically impossible that they themselves are capable of any form of violence. It is dangerous and it should not be dignified.

Would love to make a torment nexus joke here but the guy who wrote The Whispering Earring is literally one of you freaks
Idea: AI earrings that whisper to you and help you make decisions

You're shein addicted meanwhile you can go search dress/top/skirt on eBay, filter by size, material, color, used/pre-owned, and find more clothes than you could ever hope to scroll through, many from brands that would normally cost you hundreds of dollars for like $20-$50

A real Monet allows me the rare ability, provided only by art, to see the emotional perspective of another human being, reaching across the vast space between my consciousness and another's

i just generated an image in the style of a Monet painting using AI please describe, in as much detail as possible, what makes this inferior to a real Monet painting

I think it's metonym for the extreme self-consciousness they feel. There doesn't literally need be a phone filming them, and I doubt appearing in the back of the video would be that traumatic in and of itself. But they grew up seeing people humiliated online and fear judgment.

To be clear I don't think this means they're right or that the fear is rational. It's definitely possible and does happen, but it's so ruinous to a life to be so fearful of other people that it should be treated like a form of social anxiety or agoraphobia. Seek help.

This doesn't happen to you if you operate emotionally above the level of a newt
The music you loved at 14 will be your favorite forever: 1. Your brain produces more dopamine in adolescence than at any other point in life. 2. Every song heard during that window gets chemically tagged as emotionally important. 3. This is called the "reminiscence bump",scientists have studied it for decades. 4. After 25, your brain stops forming strong new musical memories at the same rate. 5. This is why your dad still screams the lyrics to songs from 1987. 6. You didn't pick your favorite songs. Your teenage brain chemistry did. 7. New albums from your favorite artists hit different after 30. Worse different. 8. People who discover music late in life still peak emotionally around their teen years. 9. The songs playing during your first heartbreak are permanently wired into your nervous system. 10. You will die humming something a 14 year old chose for you.

You know you've totally failed to make any impactful point when the pull quote is the introductory paragraph lmao
"In the 1950s, the Iowa Writers Workshop received funding from the CIA to push a writing style that centered the emotional life of the individual while decentering the social and political forces that shape human behavior." lithub.com/the-craft-challen…

I think people assume Jung is not a misogynist because they associate mysticism, intuitive and narrative understandings of people and psychology with women.
It’s hilarious, and surprisingly common, to go β€œFreud was a misogynist. Therefore, I will instead become a Jungian,”

It's like assuming a man who is into astrology is more feminist. Often they are worse!!

I guess the answer here is for women to return to subsidizing the male lifestyle, which would not exist if women didn’t massively subsidize it by doing men’s cooking, cleaning, laundry, childcare, and all other manner of life organizing.
Good piece with a simple thesis: The girlboss lifestyle would not exist if it were not massively subsidized. Cheap immigrant labor to do their cooking, cleaning, and child care; student loans and the whole higher ed sector; email jobs that don’t need to exist; etc.
