🎣🌹Fishing for Roses is live at Sotheby’s Digital Art Day Auction and currently has 14 bids! That said, I thought I’d share a few thoughts about the piece. To me, it embodies many of the motifs and layered symbolism woven throughout much of my work—hidden stories, textured details, and symbols that invite deeper exploration. The figure on the far left, for example, reaches out with a flimsy, plant-like object, clearly insufficient for fishing, suggesting the struggle to grasp what remains just out of reach—love, fading memories, or unfulfilled dreams. Meanwhile, upon closer inspection, the larger boat carries a mysterious cargo hidden in the shadows, while a small, impressionistic boat drifts in the upper left among cracked textures, alluding to echoes of forgotten worlds and untold narratives. Finally, the shadowed figures, with their faces turned away, invite the viewer to step into their place, bridging the surreal and the personal. The intent is that, without distinct facial features, these figures become universal, allowing viewers to project their own interpretations onto them and uncover personal meaning within the scene.
