Today marks a year @Newsday — that went fast. It’s been eventful: from buried chemical drums to contentious town meetings. Looking forward to another busy one covering Oyster Bay and Glen Cove. Think I should cover something (or have some juicy info)? Give me a holler 🤙

Jalen got me emotional on the train right now

"I don't know what I'm feeling." Jalen Brunson is in disbelief after leading the Knicks to the mountaintop 👏

Jalen Brunson is legitimately going to get standing ovations in every room he walks into in NYC for the rest of his life.

If Penn Station was any indication, it’s about to be loud at MetLife. These teams might outscore the Jets on some weeks.

I’m taking NJ Transit to get to MetLife for Brazil-Morocco. Here’s my experience @NBCNews: —1 pm: buy a ticket via NJ Transit app —1:05: line up with fans in fenced area outside Penn Station and MSG —1:25ish: we’re funneled through security, ticket scan, etc. (thread 1/5)

FYI on NJ Transit service ⬇️⬇️⬇️
NJ TRANSIT rail service from Penn Station New York is currently reserved for World Cup travel only. Please go to PATH’s 33rd Street Station for travel to Newark Penn Station and Hoboken Terminal to continue to your final destination station. Service at Penn Station New York is expected to resume after 5:14 PM.

Leave your bags at home, says the NYPD.
Tonight is a big night for NYC, and we want everyone to have fun and be safe. There will be multiple major events in and around MSG, so starting at 4pm, we will establish the same secure zone. Everyone will be screened. Get there early and leave bags at home.

Trying to get down to Penn Station from its main entrance? Not so fast. Commuters are being directed towards 7th and 34th to get down into the LIRR. Multiple closures are going to remain in effect until the World Cup match starts at 6 p.m.

Lots of confusion here as World Cup attendees are being directed down W 32nd Street to go through metal detectors before re-entering Penn Station, with wristbands, to take NJ Transit to the game.

The escalators leading from the LIRR to NJ Transit are now closed off in Penn Station. Soccer fans traveling to NJ are being re-routed to street level to take the PATH train to Newark before heading to the game.

The vibes are high in Penn Station hours before @nyknicks game time. I just heard my first “Knicks in 5,” and it’s not even noon yet.

MTA employees are handing out this yellow World Cup travel guide to fans making their way to tonight’s game in NJ and fan events in the area. I’m in Penn Station getting a sense of how soccer fans are making their way. Follow along @Newsday.
