The Leadbeater assisted dying PMB failed under scrutiny. But plans are afoot to revive it, and force it into law. Pressure is now being put on Labour MP Lauren Edwards to put her name to the Bill. We turned out with her constituents to ask her to make a different choice.

From the MRP poll of more than 10,000 UK voters: "Lauren Edwards; came second in PMB ballot) - legalising assisted suicide came bottom of 10 possible priorities for constituents; only 7% of her constituents included it in their top three priorities for what they would want her to prioritise if she had a chance to bring forward a change in the law"
NEW: The Assisted Dying Bill is returning to Parliament this week. Labour MP Lauren Edwards will reintroduce it on Wednesday after coming 2nd in the private members’ ballot. “The process has been frustrated by a small minority”, she argues.

Reckless. If the Assisted Death Bill is brought back and forced into law, there is little chance to make this Bill safer - far less safe. Fateful legacy for whichever MP has been persuaded to take it on.
Replying to @AJogee
We have debated this deeply divisive and flawed Bill for over a year and nothing has changed nothing. This Bill will hand sweeping, unchecked powers over life and death and our NHS to future governments..whoever they are. Insane stuff.

"Only 7% of Edwards’ constituents included it in their top three priorities for what they would want her to prioritise" 550 of Lauren Edwards' constituents signed our petition asking her to bring forward a Bill to unite, not divide the community.

Very sad to see my colleague Lauren Edwards MP bringing the deeply flawed and unsafe Assisted Dying Bill back as a PMB. If it was safe and brilliant why did the Lords sponsor of the bill bring 77 amendments in the Lords? It cannot just be brought back as it is and forced through.

It's Lauren Edwards in Rochester and Strood. The Other Half joined local people there last weekend to ask her to choose differently. What a burden she has taken on. x.com/i/status/2066250277318…

The fate of the “assisted dying” bill now falls in the hands of Lauren Edwards MP. Her local constituency polls strongly against the bill. 📉 Residents of her area gathered outside her office to appeal to her not to resurrect yet another “assisted dying” debate 👇
NEW: Andrew George will *not* reintroduce the assisted dying bill. The Lib Dem MP, who was drawn fourth in the private members' bill ballot, tells me he'll instead introduce an affordable housing bill looking at second and holiday homes alongside delivering more social homes.

Pro baby and pro parents 👏. This is a truly excellent use of Sir Desmond's Private Member's Bill slot. Too many child and parent interventions (~ all of them) are diverted into projects to get women back into paid work sooner. Mums told us they don't want this. What a great opportunity to do something ambitious for babies and mums 🤞.
A child’s first 1001 days - pregnancy to age two, are critical in laying their life’s foundations. Winning the PMB was an enormous privilege. I want to unite Parliament around a world-first Bill to recognise this, and enshrine support for the 1001 critical days in law. 🧵 1/6

"Mums told us they want family friendly work, more parenting time (not less) with young children, an economy that allows for care, and a village of support. Much of this is not new, it just now needs to be delivered. This is not a fringe issue, birth rates have slumped but most young women want children. We must make the UK the best place for them to be a mum"

Very well said by TOH
We were down in Rochester & Strood today - where MP Lauren Edwards is under the most pressure to revive the failed assisted death Bill and push it through into law. Local residents turned out with The OH's @fionamacmac & @TheNotDeadYetUK, to ask her not to return this Bill.

It wasn’t procedurally obstructed. It was a non-manifesto, private members bill. The Lords are not required to get it through, and they did their job properly, throughly scrutinising this bad bill which had shamefully been rushed through the Commons.
