2 years ago, my friend bought 1 acre of land in Ikorodu.
He didn’t inform me, even though he knew I could have guided him.
He kept it a secret and rushed into making payment for the property,
because he saw an advert on Facebook saying, “Buy now, thank me later.”
He told me he asked questions, and they answered him, but he failed to do a physical inspection.
He made payment and was given only a receipt and a provisional survey.
Last month, he finally visited the land and met a farmer chewing cassava on his land.
The farmer challenged him and said the land was family inheritance.
He told me he almost went crazy.
I’m not here to say those who robbed him off his money did well,
No, but if he had done the right thing that wouldn’t have been the case.
Here is my advice to anyone planning to buy land, be it a family land, an individual-owned land, or from a real estate company:
1. Physically inspect the land.
2. Verify ownership at the local land registry through a reliable surveyor.
3. Carry out a land litigation check through a property lawyer.
4. Ensure all documents are legal, including deed of assignment and registered survey (where applicable)
I know some people will still fall victim again out of impatience and greed.
Peace unto you!
