BREAKING ⚡: We’re calling on the next Scottish government to ensure Scotland’s energy wealth benefits EVERYONE - not just private companies, overseas investors and shareholders.
.@ewangibbs, a historian of energy and work at the University of Glasgow, joined us at our launch last week and reflected on our campaign demands around a public stake in wind.
It's time to demand a fairer energy system in Scotland that puts our communties and workers first!
In Aberdeen, we saw all of the profits from our oil go to big corporations. We can't let that happen with renewables!
We need good, union jobs for workers in Scotland and community-owned energy.
We can't leave workers behind!
“A lot of the skills for roles in these industries [oil and gas] are transferable to offshore wind, tidal and hydrogen infrastructure, so unless there is a motivation to stay, Aberdeen workers are likely to look elsewhere."

Instead of handing public money to overseas firms to locate in Scotland, the Scottish Government should take public stakes in renewable manufacturing and use its powers to ensure developers buy locally, guarantee good pay and union rights. ⚡️🏴

In March 2026 alone, wind and solar kept the UK from having to import £1bn worth of oil and gas.
It's clear that renewables are the way forward, but we need to make sure our communities and workers are seeing the benefits!
Here are parts for the nearly 1.1 gigawatt Inch Cape wind farm being imported at the port of Leith.
If we built these parts here, it'd mean good manufacturing jobs. Let's build them in Scotland!
