This is union busting. The company told workers they were profitable in all stores and are now saying that’s not true while pivoting industries away from their cafes that won a new contract and the reinstating of a union leader following a 100 day strike.
On July 18, the Seattle artisanal sandwich shop chain Homegrown notified the state that it would be laying off 158 workers and closing 10 of its 12 locations, effective September 15. This comes months after it reached an agreement with its workers for better pay and conditions.
