This whole discussion is people conflating belonging to the clade "Dinosauria" with being a Dinosaur-grade stem-bird intermediate between birds and earlier reptiles. Two very different concepts both reflecting biological reality masquerading as one.

one fact that I feel like has really not penetrated the public consciousness to the extent that it should is “birds are dinosaurs.” and not in like a “they are distant descendants” way, in a “dinosaurs did not go extinct” way

I was _so wrong_, and I'm happy with that. This specimen is NOT privately owned, but is curated and exhibited at the Geological Museum of the Sun Yat-Sen University . gs.sysu.edu.cn/article/2310

Like other Liaoning dinosaurs, Beipiaosaurus is known by a number of specimens, many in private hands. These specimens shows that it could have grown much larger than the holotype #theropoda #therizinosauria #beipiaosaurus source:douyin

It was always fascinating to observe how little juvenile Tarbosaurus resemble Nanotyrannus specimens and just how similar they are to adults of their own species.
#FossilFriday It is sad to announce for the #Mongolian nations, on the other hand, it is a good thing that these specimens are repatriated to their homeland. I hope that these findings will contribute to science more effectively in the future. Please STOP doing this from today!!!

While the paper hasn't come out just yet, the news certainly has. Proud to announce our discovery of color patterning in a sauropod dinosaur. Will go in depth tomorrow.

Imagine this happened in real life, and scientists put these theropods in a small vivarium only for them to grow bigger than their cage!

First time I feel confident enough about how a sketch turned out to share it here. So here is Proceratosaurus.

"They found a single bone!!!"
Ever notice how folks that question the existence of dinosaurs or the science tied to them rarely mention the literally hundreds of other extinct animals and plants? They love to cherry pick the thing they personally can’t understand/refuse to learn

I'd love to see the awkward transition depicted somewhere.
New paper out on some beautifully preserved embryonic & hatchling fossils of the #Jurassic #sauropodomorph #Massospondylus. Interestingly they were quadrupedal has hatchlings, but became bipedal as they grew. link.springer.com/article/10…

Meet Palaeocampa anthrax, a newly discovered Carboniferous lobopodian, and 150 year old mystery fossil! Palaeocampa is an exceptional lobopodian - it lived in rivers and lakes, bristled with thousands of poisonous spines, and more. 🧵 Open access: nature.com/articles/s42003-0…

I've been thinking and I think the antorbital fossa in Theropods and Basal Dinosaurs must have been covered by some shield like tough tissue and not just a flimsy wall of skin. Maybe the cornification that covers the lacrimal crests extended onto the fossa. Or armor-like scales.

I... have a question. An important question. What makes Pterosaurs not dinosaurs?

Working on dinosaur integument feels weird. On one hand people love dinosaur integument, but also you rarely see it properly incorporated in paleo art and media
