Computing history nerd. Co-conspirator on the GrumpyOzRetro pod. CW: off-topic tweets; moderate shitposting. 100% pure tech feed: @ozretrocomp@oldbytes.space
Limited to reading 600 tweets a day, am I? I guess I'll have to start unfollowing people. Feel free to unfollow me if the shitposting is too much, and/or go follow me on the Elephant Site if you want pure tech (and me taking the socials more seriously). oldbytes.space/@OzRetrocomp
Not long to go now until the 2024 @morefunmakingit Charity Live Stream! In this video, Lee explains it way more thoroughly than I ever could. Looking forward to it! youtube.com/watch?v=nQ4Q1_9k…
Back home after an outstanding weekend of vintage computer and console goodness in Canberra. VCF Down Under '25 next year? Yes, this is from last night; I just couldn't be arsed posting until this morning
I was going to share some photos from the Canberra Vintage Computer Expo, but Jeremy Barr-Hyde (not sure if he's on here) did a much better job. You can view his excellent photo album even if you don't do Crackbook facebook.com/media/set/?set=…
Just a quickie in lieu of a full episode, on account of VCF Down Under / 2024 Canberra Vintage Computer Expo being only a couple of days away podcasters.spotify.com/pod/s…
Just preparing my Amstrad PPC640 for the 2024 Canberra Vintage Computer Exhibition / VCF Down Under, and it turned out that both floppy drives are cactus. Thankfully old mate Gotek saved the day. Crisis averted. vcfed.org/vcf-down-under/
It's unfortunate that the retro community even *needs* a website like this, but if this site stops even just one person getting scammed, then it's worth it. dontmesswithretro.com/
Computer games sort of peaked with the 360 and PS3. Since then the development time and costs have gotten out of hand to the point of only having 2/3 games from xbox or Sony per console. It's pointless.
No horrendous thumbnails, no clickbait titles... just consistently high quality videos packed with useful info. Congrats on 1M subs. If you're not subscribed to ExplainingComputers, what's stopping you?
I thought we'd have a desk & studio tour to celebrate 1,000,000 ExplainingComputers subscribers! youtube.com/watch?v=aOK108FH… Normal service resumes next Sunday. :)
Note to self: If I ever get my hands on a Sinclair C5, I'll have to vinyl wrap it in the classic Lotus F1 JPS livery. If the C5 was good enough for Ayrton Senna, it's good enough for me.
In 30 years of working the only improvement is working from home. Better family life, no commute, fewer vehicles on the road, less stress, a fortune saved in lunches and parking. Anyone against it is pure evil.
Here's the latest episode of the GrumpyOzRetro pod. Not sure when the next one will drop, but hopefully the delay won't be quite as lengthy as that between episodes 5 and 6.
Available here, or wherever you get your pods.

Fun fact: you can't use the word "catch" when reviewing a product on @Bunnings website as it "names a competitor".
Context: "Product x is OK, but there's a catch".
I don't know if it was picked up by a human janny or AI, but the code/human that picked it up is pretty dumb.
and yeah I know I'm screaming into the void because @Bunnings abandoned their Twitter account in 2012, but sometimes an old man finds it cathartic to yell at clouds.
