As the current version of luxury becomes less desirable & more accessible, curated & scarce vintage will accelerate, and the opportunity for something new emerges
Social media means nothing is gatekept for long and even previously exclusive brands have now become mainstream thru 'quiet luxury' trends etc
This sentiment is already evident in markets for vintage cars & watches with huge premiums for the most 'nostalgic' pieces, but I think this is broadly limited to boomers and definitely yet not trickled down to younger generations, definitely not at the same level
It is interesting to consider what current & future generations consider desirable in the next decades as everything else becomes saturated
especially when you assume a decent amount of new wealth will come from emerging industries of ai and crypto etc, do we finally see a new era of the rich commissioning and funding things that would otherwise never be produced, driven by reasons other than only financial return. the current cohort of billionaire tech bros seem more occupied with gay sex parties, with the occasional larping about 'beauty' and 'taste' whilst then explaining why uniqlo is the pinnacle of style... gross
Every supercar now is 1000bhp and fast with design converging to all look the same, cheaper models already outcompeted by an infinite number of Chinese brands with 50 inch infotainment and unlimited features, even hypercars are seen everywhere online and in most major cities, nothing becomes rare anymore
Regardless of the accelerating consumption, human nature will not change and we will always desire status and exclusivity, the flex might shift form but it will never disappear
Culture itself can last forever and crypto, specifically Ethereum, makes that possible on an immutable and decentralized ledger. I started
@forevercultfund specifically for this reason, but I have been very interested in how this can converge with physical items that share the same concept of being created to be passed down... crypto bros just also lack the taste to truly experiment with this in a meaningful way
Some things shouldn't last forever and that's OK, but for the rare things that have that ability, we should give them extra care and love
